When was the last time your watch buzzed to say, “I miss you”?
The myFirst Fone S4 takes kids’ smartwatches to a new level with magiCode — a feature that turns simple vibrations into intimate messages. Whether it’s a soft buzz for “hello” or a longer pulse for “I’m thinking of you,” magiCode redefines how parents can stay connected with their children. It’s easily customisable, and kids can communicate with their friends with pre-defined ‘codes’, much like how pseudo-boomers used to send gibberish pager messages that only their peers could understand.
The Fone S4 is not just a communication tool — it introduces a new way to motivate children. This comes in the form of a new currency system where kids can earn carrots to redeem cosmetics like avatars and wallpapers simply by completing tasks. This comes in the form of dailies (mobile gamers can relate) or custom, parent-designed tasks like hitting step goals or finishing homework, adding a layer of fun to daily routines.
What sets the Fone S4 apart from its peers are Fone OS and myFirst Circle, a kid-centric operating system and social circle, respectively. Rather than a simplified version of WearOS, myFirst’s dedicated system is designed to enable voice and video calls, messaging and social sharing in a secure, controlled environment with full visibility for parents. Unlike the competition, which is more tool-centric in its approach (e.g., the primary purpose is to monitor location), the Fone S4 is designed to foster social interactions between trusted social circles. To improve the social environment further, concerned parents can contact moderators if necessary.
Features that are almost like regular smartwatches
A new 1.65-inch, always-on AMOLED display and upgraded processor provides crisp visuals and a more responsive UI experience. It’s also equipped with a 5MP wide-angle camera with HDR for better-quality selfies and video footage in difficult lighting. The watch also features a new dual-band GPS (like the one in the Apple Watch Ultra) to improve location accuracy in tall, built-up areas.
However, software is where the magic lies. The new Fone S4 also introduces a bunch of under-the-radar-but-useful quality-of-life improvements, such as the ability for the parents to live track location during calls (which can help them give directions in real-time, for example), CareCall, which makes the auto-answers after three missed calls for added peace of mind. Parents will certainly appreciate the photo polling feature — where they can attach photos as poll entries rather than explain – to get the family to decide, say, what’s for lunch.
Priced at $299, myfirst Fone S4 will be available in two colours: Cotton Candy (shown in pics here) and Space Blue. Pre-orders start on 27 December 2024. myFirst also offers a FreeSIM service for unlimited data at $10 per month or $83.88 annually.
