Rumor mill: AMD is expected to launch its RDNA 4 graphics cards next year, and recent leaks are already giving us with some idea about what to expect. A new report suggests that the rumored flagship, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, could have a boost clock of up to 3.1GHz and a TBP (Total Board Power) between 260W and 330W, depending on the model.

The information comes from tipster Zhangzhonghao, who claimed on Chinese hardware forum Chiphell (via @9550pro) that the reference version of the 9070 XT will have a TBP of around 260W, with custom models possibly rated up to 330W. The leaker added that the card’s base clock will be 2.8 GHz, while the boost frequency will be around 3.0 to 3.1 GHz.

The RDNA 4 cards will compete with Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5000-series models, which are also expected to launch early next year. If the information is correct, the 9070 XT will likely sit between the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 in terms of power consumption. Zhangzhonghao went on to say that the RX 9070 XT’s performance is within 5 percent of the RTX 4080 in certain games, but did not provide any more details.

Another leak from earlier this week seems to have revealed the 3DMark Time Spy results for the 9070 XT. According to an X post by @All_The_Watts, the card notched up a score of 22,894 points, suggesting that it is only 2 percent faster than the RX 7900 GRE and much slower than the RX 7900 XT.

However, this particular leak needs to be taken with a generous sprinkling of salt. Synthetic benchmarks don’t always tell the whole story, so we’ll have to wait for the 9070 XT’s real-world gaming benchmarks to get a better idea about its performance. Moreover, 3DMark does not always display the correct names of unreleased graphics cards, so it is doubtful whether these numbers are for the 9070 XT.

Recent leaks have revealed that AMD will skip the Radeon RX 8000 nomenclature for its next-gen RDNA 4 GPU lineup, and will instead market them under the Radeon RX 9000 branding. The 9070 XT will be the flagship RDNA 4 model, but it will likely compete against mid-range RTX 5000-series cards instead of the top-of-the-line RTX 5090.
